INA retraces the incredible adventure that took Ina von Grumbkow across the vast and challenging Icelandic landscapes in 1908. Motivated by a tragic event the year before, when her fiancé vanished while doing a geological study of the crater lake of Askja, she embarked on this journey in search of answers. The film links the arduous voyage with the director’s search to decipher the unknown and mysterious figure of Ina von Grumbkow. Comprised of von Grumbkow’s own retelling of the quest via excerpts from her book Ísafold, and adding the director’s reflections, the film blurs the line between documentary and experimental art film, eventually unfolding a tale of grief connected through time and space.
